ALL ARMED PERSONNEL MUST PASS A HANDGUN QUALIFICATION
COURSE
DURING THE FIRST TRIMESTER OF EACH YEAR. THE FIREARM
CARRIED
ON DUTY SHALL BE USED FOR QUALIFICATION
PURPOSES.
SWORN PERSONNEL WHO DESIRE TO CARRY OTHER OPTIONAL
PISTOLS
ON-DUTY, OFF-DUTY, OR AS SECONDARY GUNS MUST PASS A
QUALIFICATION
COURSE WITH EACH OPTIONAL GUN EACH YEAR. [MPP
3-01/050.65]
THE HANDGUN QUALIFICATION COURSE FOR 2012 IS COMBAT BASED
AND
MUST BE FIRED IN A MOBILE SHOOTING TRAILER. PERSONNEL
MUST
SCORE 70 POINTS OR MORE ON THE COURSE OF FIRE TO PASS
QUALIFICATION
(MAX SCORE 100 POINTS).PERSONNEL WHO DO NOT ACHIEVE A
PASSING
QUALIFICATION SCORE MUST REPEAT THE QUALIFICATION COURSE OF
FIRE
UNTIL A SCORE OF 70 POINTS OR MORE IS
ACHIEVED.
THE 2012 QUALIFICATION IS A 20 ROUND COURSE OF FIRE, AND
EMULATES
A FIREARMS COMBAT AT 5, 7, 10, 15, 20, AND 25YD SHOOTING
DISTANCES.
THE 2012 QUALIFICATION FOR 2 INCH REVOLVERS IS ALSO A 20
ROUND
COURSE OF FIRE, BUT EMULATES A FIREARMS COMBAT AT 5 AND 10
YARD
SHOOTING DISTANCES
ONLY.
THE 2012 QUALIFICATION COURSE USES A TWO-SIDED TARGET TO
INCLUDE
THREAT ASSESSMENT IN THE SHOOTING COURSE. SHOOTING ANY
UNARMED
SUSPECT TARGET (WHO DOES NOT PRESENT AN IMMEDIATE THREAT)
DURING
QUALIFICATION WILL EQUAL A ZERO SCORE FOR THAT COURSE OF
FIRE.
PERSONNEL SHOOTING QUALIFICATION MUST BRING A HOLSTER FOR
THE
HANDGUN BEING USED [MPP3-03/280.00]. DRAWING FROM THE HOLSTER
IS
REQUIRED DURING 2012 QUALIFICATION. PERSONNEL SHOOTING
OFF-DUTY
AND SECONDARY GUNS MUST ALSO BRING A HOLSTER FOR THOSE GUNS,
AND
ARE STRONGLY ENCOURAGED TO DRAW FROM CONCEALED CARRY
HOLSTERS
DURING THE
QUALIFICATION.
PERSONNEL QUALIFYING WITH ON-DUTY SEMI-AUTO PISTOLS MUST USE
AT
LEAST 2 MAGAZINES CAPABLE OF HOLDING A TOTAL OF 20 ROUNDS
DURING
THE
COURSE.
PERSONNEL QUALIFYING WITH OFF-DUTY SEMI-AUTO PISTOLS MUST USE
AT
LEAST 2 MAGAZINES CAPABLE OF HOLDING A TOTAL OF 12
ROUNDS.
(THERE WILL BE A PAUSE DURING QUALIFICATION FOR LOADING
THE
REMAINING 8 ROUNDS INTO
MAGAZINES)
PERSONNEL QUALIFYING WITH AN OFF-DUTY 6 SHOT REVOLVER MUST
BRING
AT LEAST 1 SPEED-LOADER. (THERE WILL BE A PAUSE DURING
QUALIFICATION
FOR RELOADING THE REMAINING ROUNDS INTO GUN AND
SPEED-LOADER)

PROVIDE
BY THE
RANGE.
PASSING QUALIFICATION IN AN EMPLOYEES ASSIGNED SHOOTING MONTH
WILL
CONSTITUTE COMPLIANCE WITH THE DEPARTMENTS BASIC SHOOTING
REQUIREMENTS
FOR THE FIRST
TRIMESTER.
SHOOTING MONTH ASSIGNMENT IS BASED UPON THE EMPLOYEES LAST
NAME:

PERSONNEL MAY SHOOT OPTIONAL QUALIFICATION COURSES OR COMBAT
TRAINING
EXERCISE COURSES WITH THEIR ON-DUTY, BACK-UP, OR OFF-DUTY WEAPONS
AT
ANY TIME DURING THE TRIMESTER FOR PRACTICE TO BETTER THEIR
PERFORMANCE.
THE OBSOLETE QUALIFICATION COURSE (STANDARD 30 ROUND - 25
YARD
QUALIFICATION) DOES NOT MEET THE BASIC SHOOTING REQUIREMENT FOR
FIRST
TRIMESTER OF 2012, BUT WILL REMAIN AN OPTIONAL COURSE OF FIRE
FOR
SHOOTING PAY DURING 2012.SHOOTING BONUS PAY REMAINS FROZEN DURING
2012.
PERSONNEL WISHING TO INCREASE THEIR SHOOTING BONUS PAY BY
ACHIEVING
MARKSMAN,SHARPSHOOTER, EXPERT, OR DISTINGUISHED EXPERT SCORES,
MAY
